This is an old skirt that had a hole in the seam. The other fabric is from a skirt Mom made for me. I fixed the hole in the skirt by following the way one of the girls (I don't remember which one) fixed her skirt on Like Mother, Like Daughter. (I looked for the link, but couldn't find it.)

Happy

This set of movies is really cool. I like combat-ish movies, especially old ones.

Funny

Dad's shoes were sitting next to the front door in the dark, I walked past the door, and tripped over the shoes. Mom heard it and started cracking up.

Real

I accidentally washed the camera while Lizzie and Justin were here for Christmas. Justin did some camera first-aid, but it didn't work. The camera is now officially dead. (So I took Mom's camera to take the pictures.)

We went to a cook out thing-bash with some friends, and one of the boys there decided to fry an apple over the fire. He said it didn't taste too bad. His sister ate some, too, but didn't like it.

You Know You're a PK When...

1. You're taking a class from your dad, and he says, "Oh, and tell your mom that I'm going over to the hospital later today" and it's normal.

2. When the main things you want to know in a phone message is which hospital the person is, what the person's name is, and the person's condition.

3. When you're the stand in acolyte.

4. When you've got the church year memorized.

5. When you help change the altar things even though you are't on the altar guild.

6. When you go over to the church with your dad the day before a special church service and helps him rearrange (and tells him that such-and-such is crooked, or the flowers are lopsided, or the candle wicks are bent over so that they're even more flame-proof than ever)

7. When you get excited when the church gets hand-me-down oil-filled candles (which are not flame proof; they normally cost about a million dollars each, so hand-me-downs are nice)

8. When you notice that he dragged his sleeve through the Communion wine and you tell him later.

9. When he gives you a job to do in the middle of the service, and you go do it.

10. When you know how to work the sound system.

11. When you carry lunch over to the church building.

12. When you tap-dance in the church hallway and nobody minds.

13. When your mom teaches Sunday school and all the little kids flock to her and follow her around, and you call her Mother Duck.

14. When you know where the altar guild cabinet thing key is hidden.

15. When you know where all the light switches are.

16. When the secretary says that your dad has gone to the hospital, and you don't panic.

17. When you run back to the office to get candy for the children's sermon because your dad forgot some.

This is an old German Bible from the 1890s. Somebody wrote in it in ink-well ink, but I can't read what it says. The spine is taped together with packing tape, and the pages are falling out in places.

Mom's students had their first hymn listening quiz in class today. They were all in a ditzy about it, but it came out ok. Mom's happy.

That's a picture thing that Dad got for either Christmas or his birthday (I don't remember which).

Nope. I don't think anybody in our family has hit an already living animal. Running over road kill is different. (Once Dad even avoided hitting a big old turtle on a bridge.)

Dad got a call from a church in a midwestern town that I'm not going to say the name of. We're moving in June after school gets out. No one can pack many things right away, but about half of our books and all of our winter clothes (I think) are packed.

Script Frenzy 2011 Progress and NaNoWriMo

Script Frenzy

I decided that the first idea would make more sense as a novel. So, I'm using Blackout and All Clear by Connie Willis for a radio script.

It's a radio script because those are much easier to write and they've been around MUCH longer than television sets that people could have in their houses.

The books are set in World War Two, so the scripting-music is all from around that time. Listening to The Lion King, Les Miserables, Grand Hotel, Mulan, Phantom of the Opera, and lots of other things like that doesn't fit in with air raids and people getting trapped in the past.

Script Frenzy started today. I have no idea what I'm writing about, really...At least for NaNo last year, a friend had given an idea (the idea ended up not being something that made a lot of sense in novel format, though). This year, I looked here for a plot and things like that.

Things I Know

1. The script's about desert nomads, dwarves, and a stableboy.

2. The dwarves are very pale and bald. (Living underground isn't a good place to grow food with lots of proteins, which is what your hair needs. Also, without sunlight, you turn whiter than the Blogger post place thingy.)

3. The nomads are mean.

4. The gods of the nomads are kinda Greek-ish. When they intervene, everything goes kaput.

5. It's going to be very random and not make much sense at the end.

6. It'd better be 100 pages at least, or else. *glares the characters into 0.000000000000001% submission*

A Science Lab Report Complaint

In science, we have to write three formal lab reports a year. The last one (about weather) was really boring. I decided to add in how weather effects history to make it more interesting. The problem is, I didn't include many references.

The history was all things I'd known for years and years. Mom and Dad taught it! I don't know what books they used. Mrs. Garmong probably wouldn't have liked me putting down "Martha S*****" and "Dave S*****" in the references slot. So, I didn't put anything down.

At the end she wrote:

"Lack of in-text citations: -2"

There were some other problems, too, but the citation thing was the most annoying. Teachers don't even follow the sources unless they're in doubt! Besides, I got the facts right.

I got a 92%, though. That's pretty good for doing something that wasn't at all interesting.

Martin Luther's Death Day

The guy in the picture is Martin Luther, not to be confused with Martin Luther King orMartin Luther King, Jr. Those two were named after him.

Martin Luther was going to be a lawyer, but quit college to become a Catholic monk. He then decided that the Pope wasn't interpreting the Scriptures correctly. He was sent to Rome to deliver some letters, and was

absolutely appalled at the practice of Indulgences.

An Indulgence is the full or partial pardon of sins, which occurs when gazing on relics, paying for pieces of paper, saying the Lord's Prayer while climbing some steps, and a lot of other acts like that. Luther said that by doing those, you are depending on yourself and not on Jesus Christ to save you. He wrote 95 Thesis and hung them up on the Wittenburg Castle Church on October 31st, 1517.

He was called up before the Emperor for that, and asked to recant. Luther was prepared to give an answer, and so was allowed to come back at noon the next day. That was when he gave probably his most famous speech.

"Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the Pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen."

The Catholic church declared him a heretic. That meant that he would be arrested and killed, like many other theologians for centuries. Luther was given safe passage back to Wittenburg, but Prince Fredrick didn't trust that.

Prince Fredrick kidnapped Luther (without the afor-mentioned lawyer-turned monk-turned outlaw) knowing. He stayed in an attic in the Wartburg Castle. While there, he translated the New Testament from Koine Greek into German so that plain old people could read it. He also wrote about a gazillion theological writings.

When Luther returned secretly to Wittenburg, he wrote in a letter, "During my absence, Satan has entered my sheepfold, and committed ravages which I cannot repair by writing, but only by my personal presence and [the] Living Word [of the Bible]." For eight weeks in Lent, he preached a sermon every Sunday that affirmed that what the Bible says is true.

Even though helping in Wittenburg had worked, people outside of that town were taking his writings and teachings too far. They were actually planning to attack the Roman Catholic church. Luther managed to keep them from doing it, but pointing out that we should love our enemies, and not hurt them.

Luther actually married a nun. Katharina von Bora and eleven others escaped from a nunnery in herring barrels. They moved into a former monestary, which was a gift from John the Steadfast. The two had six children, and were very poor. A few of the children died during their childhood.

He also wrote two catechisms, established a new church denomination, and made a new order of service (now called the Divine Service). The service was conducted in German so that everybody could participate. Luther wrote several hymns, and translated the Bible from Greek and Latin into German.

At the end of his life, he was extremely sick. Luther went to settle a dispute, and apparently died on the way home. Maybe the dispute was too noisy and it was just too much for him. He was buried in the same church he had been hidden in.

Crazy Parents

Mom and Dad are both teachers, and they teach online from home. (People still ask me if they've found a job, and I say, "Yeah. They've had one for years and years and years.)

Dad teaches more classes, so most of the weird things in this post are from his. Mom teaches a couple classes: no more than three a year.

A couple days ago, Dad was teaching his Latin students about the parts of the body. For lips he did that thing that babies do. Rubbing your finger over your mouth and making a funny noise.

He also has a resident rabbit in the office, who probably chewed through the headset cord.

There's a chapter in Lingua Latina where Julia, a four year old, is annoying her older brother, Marcus. Her other brother, Quintus, is just ignoring them.

Julia: Lalala.

Dad sings like a four year old girl. He also does this well:

Marcus: Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

And he can give a shocked look over mike, too.

Mom's classes are less funny. Her students always think that the pictures of composers are really dorky and/or strange. Especially the composers with wigs, big glasses, or huge beards.

She has a joke that goes like this:

Why did Mozart kill his chickens? Because they went "Bach! Bach!".

Which is a horrible joke. (Bach is a composer, for those who don't know. And for those who don't know, go take Mom's class.)

There aren't many things that annoy me...

Grammar and spelling. People who don't do it well on purpose is just bad. It's one thing if it's the Chinese people writing out instructions for a coffee pot, but it's another thing if it's someone who speaks English well writing out instructions for a coffee pot.

People who figure that when they break something, they can just get another one, or their parents will get them another. Our family was hardly ever that way. If Lizzie or I broke something, we'd pay for at least half of it.

Kids who have parents that will buy anything, no matter how expensive it is. Lizzie and I were always taught to save our money and buy the thing ourself. If we wanted it badly enough, we'd do it. That still goes.

That's it...I'm not picky other than that. :P

Probably letting reflux get so far. I just figured it was a bug and let it go. Bad idea. If your stomach feels like it's on fire, makes funny noises like an upset cat, and you can taste everything you eat after you eat it, go get a bottle of Prylosec and follow the distructions on the back. It'll really help.

This month has been fairly normal. Normal for us means crazy for other people. I kept getting sick. Dad got two horrible migraines. (The chiropractor helped. No idea why.) I've been thinking that meteorology is a pain and that physics make much more sense (which doesn't make sense, because meteorology requires no math and physics is all math).

I have a sister who's gone through a lot of names: Beth-Anne, Elizabeth, Lizzie, Anne-Girl, and other more embarrassing ones that she'll kill me if I post. :P

She's about seven years older than I am. We look a lot a like, though. People from church used to get us mixed up.

We used to watch All Creatures Great and Small, Miss Marple, Disney, and Pixar movies together. There was also this game where we'd wrestle on the couch. It was really fun. We'd also play games with friends. When Lizzie got older, we'd also go to the cheap theater if there was something that Mom and Dad approved of playing.

Mom and Dad used to go to NANC things, so Lizzie and I would be at home alone. We'd finish all the things to do they'd leave us, then watch movies, cook, and play games. It was really fun.

(Sorry that this is a day late. It didn't post for some reason. O.o)

Every day's about the same. Mom and Dad keep telling me to get up at about 7:30 for about 10 or 15 minutes. I go down to eat breakfast, then clean up my room, get dressed, and feed the rabbit.

School's after that. Because of TPS and the fact that Dad's teaching me some subjects, and he has a schedule that has to be stuck to, we actually have a schedule. :P I have his subjects every weekday except Thursday. Mom's subjects are done every day.

Today I have German class in the morning, and Justin tutors math in the evening. Tests are normally done today, too...At the last minute. :P

Day Three: Your Parents

Dad likes sausage, cheese, beer, debating theology, and teaching. He's a Latin, Greek, and vocabulary teacher online, and an ordained pastor in the American Association of Lutheran Churches.

Mom likes blue and white china, Jane Austen, homemaking, and music. She teaches music history and music theory online, and used to teach piano and flute.

Both of them lived in Missouri until Dad got a job in the Appalachian mountains that wasn't a coal-mining job. They both worked at a school. That's where Lizzie went until 6th grade.

Now it's normal to hear "Roma in Italia est. Italia in Europa est. Eygyptus in Europe non est. Egyptus in Africa sunt." and "Vivaldi was nicknamed the Red Priest, and sometimes, during a mass, he would get an idea for a piece of music and wander off to write it." It feels weird when no one's teaching.

Introduce Yourself

I have brown hair, eyes that change colours, and am the shortest person in the family (barely; I'm catching up with Mom :P ).

Books, writing, music, movies, sewing, cleaning, school, and talking to friends are all fun things to do. Romance is disgusting, and explosions are cool. I don't like lighting matches, but want to make napalm. That doesn't go well together. :P Candles are good, too. I got a long-handled lighter thing because matches are scary.

I have a mom, dad, sister (Lizzie), brother-in-law (Justin) cat (Felix), and rabbit (Velvet; anybody want her?).

This year was the first year that we've had Christmas at home. Lizzie and Justin came to visit, and Mom bought fancy British cheese. (Stilton is gross. It tastes the way it smells.)

We went to the churches Dad pastors at on Christmas Eve. They weren't midnight services, which was really nice because the churches are about two hours away. :P

In the morning, Mom got a waffle iron, so made waffles. Lizzie and I got stockings for Mom and Dad.

I have way too many books...Well...There's a healthy amount in my room, but there's no more room for them. There are about forty books on the dresser. The library books live on my desk. There're three shelves. About twenty books and a million other things live there. I have a book case, which is completely filled with books and CD's. There's a shelf above my bed, which is also full of books. And, during the day time there are books on my bed. Those get transferred to the floor at night.

A reason for all the books is that if there's a series I like, I try to get the books. So all of the series ends up jostling for any available surface. Also, a lot of thick books. (Like Les Miserables or Lord of the Rings. And all of the Redwall books take up room.) (There's a box for the Harry Potter books along with the wand, and several other Harry Potter-related stuff under my bed...And probably a few books.)

Does anybody have any ideas on how to fit more books into the room?

I get injured VERY easily, I've decided.

Since preschool, I've gotten several scraped up knees and elbows, several cuts and bruises...Getting several toes and fingers smashed during ballet, almost getting a concussion on the ballet barr and the car door...

My finger after running the sewing machine needle through the edge of it (and bleeding a little AND bending the sewing machine needle).

After scraping my foot against the car door and scraping off a small amount of epidermis.

Then, there's an almost-faded-away scar from cutting my foot open when riding my scooter and trying to avoid hitting a dead squirrel (I hit a big tree root instead).

I also have bad knees. Which means that if I hurt them, they start aching, and pain medicine becomes my best friend. (Along with gallons of iced tea to make sure that my knee joints aren't dry.)

That was Lyla Mae. She's the only one of the R's without a Biblical name.

Since we have massive trees in the park, Ruth decided that we should try hugging one. We couldn't quite reach all the way around. Almost, but not quite. We set the cameras onto the timer so that everybody could get in the picture.

We went to the park, took off our shoes, got our feet burned on the fake grass, and swang a LOT. And made several trips to the water fountain, once with Lyla Mae.

Mom, Mrs. R, and Lyla Mae (who is the baby) all drove to the park. The rest of us walked.

Then, we went home, ate

Ruth, Becka, and their brothers and sister and parents came over for the first time yesterday.

Ruth and I have been friends since 2008. She went to the same online school as I did, and posted a novel that she and Nina were writing on the writing forum. (Here's a link to the novel, if anybody's wondering. http://wingsoffireseries.blogspot.com/ ) I asked Ruth to email me the whole story, and she did. We started chatting.

She got me to join the Storytellers a few months later. (The Storytellers is a group of more-or-less 14 people who write stories. Well...Mostly talking about other stuff...Well...We try to write. ;) )

Becka and I first met over the Storytellers chat thingy in 2009-ish.

After all that, we finally were able to meet each other.

Ruth, Becka, Josiah, Ezekiel, Caleb, Lyla Mae, Mr. R and Mrs. R all arrived at about 12:00.

Ruth got to the porch first. I was doing science cards upstairs and blasting music. Dad wanted to find out if Mom's mike actually DID block out almost all noise (apparently it does).

Mom bellowed up the stairs for me to come down. She had seen a big camper coming by a few times. Campers don't often drive past our house.

I had cleaned the kitchen, but forgotten to put away the cleaning supplies and so I fixed that. As soon as I was finished, Ruth knocked on the door.

Hug tackles ensued.

The rest of the family straggled in.

Dad was in classes until about 2:45.

When we came back from the park, he was out of all his classes for the day. Lyla kept looking at him like, "Who are you? You weren't here before."

Ruth and Becka and I all hid upstairs and took a large amount of pictures.

They left at about 5:00. :(

That was the first Storytellers meeting by people who don't live an hour away from each other or are related some how since Krys met Leah B (both of who aren't active any more).
